Sacred Spring: Beltane
April 14 @ 6:00 pm - 11:30 pm PDT$40
It is time, Darlings, to shed the darkness of winter, and welcome the warm red light of our next Poetry Brothel!
Let the seeds of inspiration burst forth in flowery prose. Let us drink deeply of the sacred Spring, and drench ourselves in words, words, words!
Goddesses and gods, fae folk, characters of legend, and mortal 21st century revelers- all are welcome!
Join us for a Beltane celebration rooted in abandon and sensual joy.
Frolic with our faeries in a flower crown. Embrace the Divine Feminine, and regenerate your energies while we poetically perform our Fertility Rituals, and read you Rites of Union and Venery.
Expect an array of Entertainments on our historic 104 year old stage, including the Aerialist stylings of Lena Fumi, the Burlesque magic of Olivia Bellafontaine, Eden Berlin, and Frankie Tan, Palm and angel numbers readings by Crystal Miel Cossey, tarot readings by Kim Manning, The musical siren calls of Joseph Windows To Sky and The Blue Wagon Trio, and of course, our Poetry Whores Terence Leclere, Aryeh-Or Katz, Vesta Vaingloria, Phillip T. Nails. Kendalle Aubra, Arminé Iknadossian, Kiri Callaghan, Lina Rocas, Christian Perfas, and hosted by none other than Bernadette McComish as Madam Tallula and Linda Ravenswood as Ach, Suzette!
About The Brothel:
“13 Best Things to Do in LA: Prepare to have your expectations exceeded by The Poetry Brothel.” – LA Weekly
Madam Tallula presents a rotating cast of poets who impart their work as purveyors of private poetry readings in secret, hidden, well-appointed chambers. You may avail yourself of your choice of poet for tokens at any time during the event.
On the heated patio, the troupe presents Tarot readings, poetic souvenirs, live typewriter poetry, and occasional burlesque and musical performances.
On the stage, a three-hour roster of Vaudeville variety entertainment and words, words, words.
The El Cid tapas kitchen and bar will be open for dinner and drinks throughout.
In addition to its poets, The Poetry Brothel presents artists and activists working in a variety of mediums both on stage and through its ever-changing array of intimate, interactive, and creative services. Artists performing with the Brothel are male, female, faeries, sea creatures, witches, aliens, POC, straight, queer, emerging, established, local, international, virgins, whores, and everything in between.
The Poetry Brothel recognizes that not everyone can take the mask of being a “whore” off at the end of the night and therefore uses its platform to support sex workers and to teach the public that sex work is real work. Sex work and poetry are two of the oldest professions – both feed the human need for intimacy, fantasy, and desire. By entwining these elements into a seamless, immersive experience, The Poetry Brothel promotes empowered sexuality practices and progressive artistic expression by exhibiting radical inclusion, consensual intimacy, conscious communication, and the inherent value of beauty in all its forms.
Behave with beauty, connect with intention. We are, by and large, a no-contact event — here to blow your mind and nothing else! Always ask before touching anyone in our House, and report any discomfort to security or staff or the Madam Herself without delay.
